UKREiiF 2025 – Reflections from iB Architects
We’ve now had time to dissect and reflect on an energising three days at the UK Real Estate Investment and Infrastructure Forum (UKREiiF 2025)—a gathering that continues to spark critical conversations around regeneration, innovation, and sustainability across the UK’s built environment.
From West London’s Park Royal and Old Oak regeneration to transformative schemes like the development for Birmingham City FC and Birmingham Airport’s future expansion aligned with HS2, the scale of ambition on display was inspiring. Institutions like Imperial College are leading the charge in aligning academic excellence with development strategy.
Sustainability was front and centre. Discussions ranged from the role of heat pumps in decarbonisation, to the essential upgrades needed in the electricity grid—reinforced by insights from government representatives who anticipate a 250% increase in planning applications, with reforms on the way to support this surge.
We were particularly engaged by the Oxford-Cambridge Growth Corridor sessions. With the government positioning it as “Europe’s answer to Silicon Valley,” and institutions like Cranfield University driving applied research (including agriculture in space!), the potential here is immense. Cross-government collaboration and bold cultural shifts are setting the tone for what’s to come.
Equally compelling were conversations on heritage-led regeneration. With the potential to deliver over 600,000 homes through asset renewal, it’s clear that vision, viability, and volatility must be balanced. Heritage doesn’t have to be a hurdle—it’s an opportunity to shape communities rooted in memory, character, and longevity. But it will require proactive local authorities, bolder partnerships, and long-term planning.
After hours, we enjoyed fantastic networking with industry friends at events hosted by Lichfields, Stepnells, Bidwells, British Land, Deloitte, JLL, SNG and Eddisons—thank you all for your hospitality! As always, these forums reinforce our commitment at iB Architects to creating spaces that are sustainable, meaningful, and future-ready.
